Inspired by the wondrous, mysterious and enchanting land of Africa – Zanzibar a place known for its rich history and architecture, the designers based their range on the flow of sand dunes and regal motifs.
The island’s homegrown fashion industry has been developing in exciting new ways in recent years. One-of-a-kind designs pulling from the varied influences of Zanzibari culture and island life, mixed with the brightly colored patterns of kanga and kitenge, create a strong sense of place and culture in the local fashion industry.
Wearing African inspired designs and tanzanite jewelry décor; the 10 sexy models strutted down the Mtoni Palace ruins to taraabmusic displaying the beautifully created outfits.
Tiny collars appeared for shirts, blouses, dresses and even gowns, piping was subtle, but extended shoulders added a contemporary touch.
Fresh, flirty and flamboyant with a touch of innocence. Participating Designers included Farouque Abdela, Adam, MAGO East Africa, Waiz Houston Shelukindo, Kihag, Upendo, Maskat De haan and Rizwan. Their collections were charming offering any young femme fatale would love to indulge in.
Before the fashion show, guests enjoyed an evening reception wine tasting and Swahili buffet Dinner. After the Fashion show after-party with official Zanzibar International Film Festival launch party while watching the Stars sparkle over the Mtoni skyline. Tickets included wine tasting and food.
